Matching hunger spots to fulfilment agencies and providing future solutions which includes Identifying hunger spots, directing the aid to the right people timely and with dignity, managing relief, avoiding duplicity & transparent and optimal utilization of relief funds.
Urban farming has been proposed as a key strategy for policymakers looking to improve global food security. Indoor farming within cities; vertical farming; and farming that makes use of underutilized spaces within urban environments such as idle land, rooftops, and unused water bodies is seeing increasing interest. Zer0Hunger is involved in pioneering initiatives to empower communities to grow local vegetables, enough food to share amongst themselves & the community.
Hunger is often not a food problem; it’s a logistics problem. Approximately 15-30% of food in emerging economies is wasted. Zer0 hunger aim to create food banks to acquire & manage donated food much of which would otherwise be wasted from food manufacturers, farms, retail stores, consumers and other sources, These will be rechanneled back to those in need through an established network of community agencies,
Romil is the Managing Director of ROFE Ventures Sdn Bhd a private equity firm. His passion is poverty and famine and he was involved in advising International Zakat and Waqf Standards for humanitarian aid. He has also sat on the Awqaf Development Board of the World International Economic Forum (WIEF). He has participated in projects involving the United Nations and the International Federation of Red Cross. He is currently a board member of the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPIEM).
Urban Farming Activist
Rashdan is an eaward winning & xperienced activist with over 20 years in social development initiatives. His experience includes communities for urban underprivileged childrens, youth empowerment and single mothers. He sits on the panel for National Food Security Agenda focusing on Urban Farming & Permaculture Projects for the Government. Rashdan is currently the Chairman for Local Agenda 21 KL
Farizul specializes in governance and policy. FHe started his career in the public sector as an Assistant Parliamentary Draftsman at the Attorney General’s Chambers and eventually attached to the Economic Planning Unit via Prokhas (MoF Inc) as Adviser for legal matters. He then continued his career with Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat as the Head of Legal and Head of Cross Border Rail before serving the Ministry of Transport, as Head of Public Transport and subsequently as a Special Adviser to the Minister.
Sharizal is an experienced entrepreneur, corporate senior executive and as well as actively involved in NGOs. His industry exposure is equally eclectic ranging from IT, fibre-optic network engineering, PR and Media Consulting Agency, sustainable agriculture. His entrepreneurially experienced in affordable housing, fintech and agri-biotech. This includes JV with a US Fortune 500 company, the Sabah State Government and creating a RM725million grants program while managing 30 different federal and state agencies. Currently he focuses his attention to community driven technology projects.
ZER0HUNGER is a platform created to systematically address hunger in Malaysia. Hunger spots are mapped out via a customised geolocate hunger map with the number of people of downloading and using the app. We are part of the MATCH hub; a public and private sector mechanism, leading the Food Security cluster .
UN reports 851 million people goes to bed hungry every night and an increasing number of people living on hunger globally, another 130 million people could be pushed to the brink of starvation by the end of 2020 connected to the COVID-19 crisis. Our vision is to use information technology to locate and help those who are in hunger due to lack of income and savings.
The technology we build allows us to create visual awareness of hunger spots thus centrally centrally coordinating efforts to mitigate duplication and enhance efficiency and effectiveness of relief operations. In addition, it allows us to execute on demand food aid to beneficiaries, transparent verified beneficiary profiling, avoiding duplication or scams. The data and information we receive from multiple data sets goes to connecting funding partners to verified information, with regional and global scalability that meets UN Sustainable Development Goals.
